What is Cedega?
Cedega a program designed to run Windows games on the Linux operating system, produced by Transgaming Technologies. Originally called WineX, it is based off of Wine but is directed more at high profile Windows games (such as World of Warcraft). Cedega is a subscription based program.
Pricing
There are two ways to purchase and use Cedega on Linspire. The easiest way for most is to purchase the program through CNR for 60 USD (or 44.95 USD for CNR Gold members), which also includes a full year of updates. This is best for those who want an easy installation and to immediately try out their favorite Windows games on Linux and ensure lasting updates.
The second way to purchase and use Cedega on Linspire is to purchase it at their site, for an upfront cost of 15 USD, which allows 3 months of updates, and then charges you 5 USD per month to continue recieving updates. This way has a slightly longer install process but you must renew every month. This is good if you already have a subscription to Cedega or if you want to test the program without paying for a full year of updates.
Installing Cedega
There are two ways to install Cedega. If you do not currently have a subscription to Cedega you can purchase it through the CNR program. If you already have a subscription and want to use it on this distro, or if you do not wish to purchase via CNR, you can install it via a .deb from their website.
Install via CNR
If you have never purchased a subscription to Cedega, you may wish to purchase it through Linspire's CNR service for $60, which includes the Cedega program and one year of updates.
To install it from CNB, simply open up the CNR client and click on the CNR Warehouse (Install Software) tab. Where it says Search: CNR Warehouse, just type Cedega in the textbox and click go. A list will pop up; from here just simply click on Transgaming Cedega. If you decide to purchase it, simply click the little icon that says CNR.
Install via .deb
To install Cedega from their website, first headover to www.transgaming.com and login with your account information (or if you do not have account, register for one). Go ahead now, we'll wait for you!
Back? Great! Now that you are logged in, either let it redirect you or click where it says "click here to return to our site". Then at the top, click the nice green button that says Downloads, and then click "Most recent prepackaged files". You will then be greeted by Transgaming's lovely license agreement; it is up to you whether you want to read it or not, but to continue (after reading if you wish) you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom and click Agree.
Now you are presented with a nice long list of long filenames with weird extensions. Scroll through these files until you find the a package called "cedega-small_X.X.X_all.deb" (the X's are version numbers). At the time of this writing, the newest version is cedega-small_5.2.3_all.deb and will be what we use in our example. If there is a newer version of this, just replace the name of the package with the exact name of the one you download. Download this file into a folder (for this example we will use our home folder for the current user).
Once you have downloaded the file, open up Konsole (that little terminal icon with a > on a monitor). If you downloaded it to your home directory, then you're ready to install; if you didn't, you can navigate to that folder using the commands
cd foldername
Once you are to where you downloaded the file, you can install it with dpkg in the terminal, using
sudo dpkg -i cedega-small_5.2.3_all.deb
This will install the package onto your computer, and you will then be presented with a quick configuration wizard same as if you installed it from CNR. Once you are done with this (it's pretty self explanatory), you are now ready to use Cedega!
