The Freespire Desktop

The Wallpaper is modified by selecting the Configure Desktop option you can select the Configure Desktop option by :- 1) Clicking on the show Desktop"button in the Panel Menu which is located (default position) in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. The button looks like a little PC screen (6th icon in from the Launch button in the above screenshot). This action minimises all currently running applications down onto the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Then right click your mouse button in a clear area of the desktop and from the menu which appears select the ¨Configure Desktop Option¨

This will then display the Configure - Desktop dialogue box which looks like

You will see 9 options as per screenshot:- (You may need to expand the dialogue box by dragging the bottom down to see all options) We will only look at the option which relates to changing the Wallpaper which is the first one in the list - ¨Background¨. It is also the option which is displayed in the right hand pane of the Configure - Desktop dialogue box, which you can see above.

Freespire (Linux) can have multiple desktops to allow you to organise your open applications. Freespire defaults to 4. You can, therefore have a different background(wallpaper) for each Desktop or the same one for each Desktop - you choose by selecting from the drop down list. Image:desktop-dialogue1-tekn0n.png

Move onto the next section of the Background option, called Background. It is here that you can select a new wallpaper. There are three options - No Picture, Picture and Slide Show. These are self explanatory. If you want to select a picture then click on the drop down list of pictures and scroll through until you find one you like. Hint : Click on the first in the list -All Good People and then simply use the down arrow cursor key to move through the entire list of available wallpapers until you get to one which you like. If you would like to have a slide show running i.e. a constantly changing wallpaper based on images stored on your hard drive then select the Slideshow radio button and then click on the Setup button.

Modify the timings by changing the ¨Change Picture after¨ option. Select random if you want images displayed at random, otherwise leave it blank and the pictures will be displayed as they are found on your hard drive. Now click the ADD button and the dialogue box displays the default location, /usr/share/wallpapers/.

Image:slide-show2-tekn0n.png

Use this location if you wish by clicking on OK and select ADD to add more folders where you have images/pictures/photos located. Use the navigation pane on the left hand side to move around your folders. If you wish to limit the types of images which you are looking at then use the Filter drop down menu (defaults to ¨All Pictures¨). Repeat the ADD process until you are finished selecting the folders from which you want your images to be displayed.

Feel free to explore the other options available now that you can see how it all works.

Congratulations you have just changed your desktop wallpaper/s (aka background)!

Desktop wallpapers can also be accessed from the Freespire Control Center - click on the launch menu, settings, Control Center. Image:Freespire-control-center-tekn0n.png
