Connecting other computers, whether they are running MS Windows or Freespire/Linspire, on your network is easy. Simply follow these instructions:
1. First, open the Network Share Manager by clicking on its icon on the Freespire Desktop. (or Launch >>> Run Programs >>> Utilities >>> Network Share Manager )
2. When the Network Share Manager is opened, click on the "+" next to "Entire Network" to browse all the workgroups available in your network
3. After you have located the workgroup you wish to browse, click on the "+" next to it to browse all the computers in it. (Note by default, the workgroup name is automatically WORKGROUP and it is usually OK to leave it at that)
4. Once you have located the computer that you are looking for, click on the "+" next to it to list its shared directories. At this point, you may be prompted for a password if authentication is required for that computer.
5. To browse the files in a shared directory, first double-click on it. The "Mount Share" dialog box will appear.
6. Enter the required username and password for this computer. Otherwise, just check the "Anonymous Login" checkbox.
If you wish to have this shared directory automatically mounted every time you start your computer, you can check "Automatically reconnect at start-up" and enter a brief description. A link will be created on your desktop to this shared directory every time your computer starts.
7. Click OK to save the settings. The File Manager will open, allowing you to browse the shared directory. Whenever you open a new shared directory by using Step 5 and Step 6 above, an entry will be saved in the list for easy future access.
If you did not choose the option "Automatically reconnect at start-up" in Step 6: when you want to browse to that shared directory again in the future, you do not have to repeat the whole process. Simply open Network Share Manager, select its entry on the right and click "Connect" to mount the shared directory. The globe icon on the "Status" column will turn blue indicating that it is connected (it will be grey if not connected). Then, click "Launch" to open it.
