How do I install DVD Player?

First, you will need to install libdvdcss2, a portable abstraction library for DVD encryption.

Download the debian package [[1]] In a terminal, in the directory you downloaded it to, enter sudo dpkg -i libdvdcss2_1.2.9-1_i386.deb

Now you can install the Xine DVD Player

If you have not already refreshed your sources.list do so now in a terminal sudo apt-get update Then enter sudo apt-get install los-xine-ui

As far as I know it is illegal for Americans to install libdvdcss2 due to patent issues

Edited by marianoi: you could also try this: Install the libdvdread3 package from CNR (http://www.linspire.com/lindows_products_details.php?product_id=10478). Then in a terminal type: sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/examples/install-css.sh
