FAQs are an excellent, easy and understandable way for people to find out information about a product, both before using the product (questions and answers about how the product works, hardware requirements, how to download, how to install, and so on) as well as technical questions after one is using a product. We want Freespire to have an excellent FAQ section, covering a wide and extensive range of topics. We'd like to build out Freespire's FAQ section here on the Freespire Wiki, so that the community can all help get involved in building out the FAQs.

The main FAQ page is here, and will serve as a starting point, a structure or shell if you will, as to how the FAQ section can be organized. We call upon all knowledgeable members of the Freespire community to help us build out this FAQ section. If you see multiple users with the same question on the forums, help add an FAQ to the wiki, so that it can be referenced by all in the future.

Here are some basic guidelines for mainting some order and structure to the Freespire FAQs:

Freespire FAQ Guidelines

  • The FAQs are organized at three levels:
    • Main FAQ Page listing the different categories of FAQs
    • Category Pages listing all the FAQs for that particular topic
    • Individual FAQs, listed as headings on the Category page (By keeping all the FAQs for a particular topic on one page, it makes it easy to scan down and read multiple FAQs for each category, rather than having to keep hitting a link and then backing up to view other FAQs.)
  • Please use the cookie crumb navigation at the top of each FAQ page.
  • Before adding a new FAQ, please search to see if it already exists, and if so, feel free to add additional information or clarity to the existing FAQ, rather than create a new FAQ.
  • Please put FAQs in the appropriate category.
  • Each FAQ Category page should start with "FAQ Category:"
  • If an FAQ needs a lot of room, use a "more" link from that FAQ on the Category page to a seperate page. If you do this, title that page starting with "FAQ:" and use cookie crumb navigation.
  • If you play around with the FAQ section and look at the catagory and FAQ pages that are already created, you'll get a good idea of how things are laid out. Please help in maintaining this structure.
  • Please only add an FAQ if it addresses a question that might be shared by several others. Don't use the FAQ section for extremely specific items, such as "How I got my XYZ Sound Card to work." There will be other areas for that in the future. Good: "How do I get sound to play when running Flash?" Bad: "How do I get my XYZ sound card to work with Doom."
