Internationalizing Freespire FAQ

How can users get an internationalized version of Freespire?

Users will have to first install the English version of Freespire, and then the language package they want.

Note: These steps might result in failure under Freespire Live due to RAM limitations.

To install the language package they want, users would have to do the following steps:

  1. Open a shell window and run an apt-get update:
    sudo apt-get update
  2. Install the "language-selector-qt" package
    sudo apt-get install language-selector-qt
    Note: the language-selector-qt package calls the adept tool which is currently been used to install the language packages; however, it makes the system really slow. So, once the language packages are installed, it is recommended to kill the adept_notifier process. As soon as CNR client is released, users will be able to install these language packages via CNR, which is a much better installation approach.
  3. Go to Control Panel -> Regional & Accessibility -> Country/Region & Language
  4. Click on the Install New Language button
  5. Select and install the language you want
