additional Freespire Linux CDs

suggestion

  • There should be a large graphical (eye-candy) download button, for the proprietary version only. moose
  • There should be a freespire cd logos / templates so that users can complete their cds quickly.

Also distributors of the cd should use the template as a standard.

Metalink

  • You should check out metalink (http://www.metalinker.org) for ISO downloads. They have one already prepared for Freespire 1.0.13. One good client is aria2 (http://aria2.sourceforge.net). Here's a brief description: 'Metalink makes complex download pages obsolete by replacing long lists of download mirrors and BitTorrent trackers with a single .metalink file. As you might have already guessed, a .metalink file is a file that tells a download manager all the different ways it can download a file. The file itself takes the form of an open XML standard that can list an unlimited number of HTTP and FTP sources as well as BitTorrent trackers and ed2k and magnet links.' Ant

way off topic

  • I have a Gateway and everything seems to be working ok except for one thing. I cannot get my Netgear wireless adapter to be recognized by Freespire. I shows that I do not have any PCMCIA adapters. Can some help me?

download for newbies suggestion

A real newbie friend got confused trying to download freespire (the ftp site has two files iso + md5sum). How about add a little bit of explaination along with links to other help pages like: Checksum , Download_ISO , Download_Help , Burn_ISO , Steps_to_burn_an_.iso - last two are redundant and could be combined. Freespire 2.0.3 VDI[1]

--VeeDee-Eyes 12:33, 28 February 2008 (PST)

I'm currently using version 1.0 of freespire. I would like to update my system without having to do a total reinstall. It would be nice to be able to keep, say, all the music that I've got saved on my hard drive.

There is not an update option available unfortunately. There are major differenced between
1.0 and 2.0 that make updating without a full reinstall impossible. Two options are available:
one -- backup to a seperate device and two -- create a seperate partition on your hard drive to
store your data on.

First, I can't get CNR to work anymore. My old client just plain doesn't do anything--I can't even sign in--and trying to access cnr.com through a web browser means that I get a screenful of statistics every time I try to download something (like, oh, I don't know, the NEW CNR CLIENT maybe...?). Is there an upgrade package? Is there something that works with the old 1.0 CNR client?

The legacy CNR (the cnr used by freespire 1.0 and Linspire 2.0) is no longer available.
It was in need of a major overhaul and Linspire decided that it would take way to much to do that.
There is not yet a client for Freespire 1.0/Linspire 5.0 though we've been told one is planned.
Best advice, you can try apt-get or synaptic and make use of the Freespire 1.0 repositories or
you can upgrade to 2.0. The source list for Freespire 1.0 and 2.0 can be found at
