What is WINE?
WINE is an open source implementation of the Windows API on top of the Linux API, aiming to allow Windows applications to run on Linux. It acts as a compatibility layer between Windows applications and Linux, and is an open implementation using no Microsoft code (although it is possible to use native Windows DLL's with WINE). WINE stands for "WINE is not an emulator".
Installing WINE
There are two ways you can currently install WINE. You can, as most programs, install through CNR; however, the version in CNR is badly outdated. Alternatively, you can edit your sources.list file and add a Wine entry to install Wine through their official repository.
Install via CNR
To install it from CNR, simply open up CNR and click on the CNR Warehouse (Install Software) tab. Where it says Search: CNR Warehouse, just type Wine in the textbox and click go. A list will pop up; from here just simply click on the little green running man next to Wine and it will ask you if you are sure you want to install Wine. Just click OK.
Install via Repository
Some of the required packages are too dated in the current version of Freespire to directly use the Wine Repository. However, with the next version Freespire should see a large update in the major packages, so there is a good chance on being able to directly use the repository with the Freespire 2.0 release.
